Which ADHD conference is right for you

UK ADHD conferences fall into three groups, and they don't overlap much. A clinical research conference will feel very different from a family expo.

Picking the right group first saves a lot of scrolling.

Clinical and research conferences

Aimed at psychiatrists, psychologists, GPs and researchers. Presentations on diagnosis, medication and new evidence. Usually CPD accredited, and the most expensive group.

Not the right fit if: you're going to learn how to manage your own ADHD.

Community and lived experience conferences

Aimed at adults with ADHD. Talks from people who have it, alongside clinicians who explain things in plain language. Often free and online.

Not the right fit if: you need CPD hours for your registration.

Family and education conferences

Aimed at parents, carers and teachers. Practical sessions on school support, behaviour, EHCPs and home life. Often expo style with exhibitors.

Not the right fit if: you want depth on adult ADHD.

What a conference day actually looks like

If you've never been to one, here's the shape of a typical day.

  1. Registration from around 8.30am, coffee and a name badge
  2. Opening talk, usually 45 minutes
  3. Two or three more talks before lunch, with short breaks between
  4. Lunch, usually an hour, often standing up
  5. Breakout sessions in the afternoon, where you pick a room
  6. A closing talk, finishing between 4pm and 5pm
  7. Optional drinks or networking afterwards

Online conferences follow the same shape but you can leave a session whenever you like, which most people do.

Getting through a full day when you have ADHD

Sitting in one room from nine until five is hard for a lot of people. A few things make it easier.

Before you go

Email the organiser and ask about quiet spaces, seating and whether talks are recorded.

Look at the programme and pick two sessions you actually care about. Book a hotel nearby if the start time means an early train.

On the day

Sit near the door or at the end of a row. You can leave a talk. Nobody watches, and everybody does it.

Skip a session if you need to, and take the break properly rather than networking through it.

Afterwards

Expect to be wiped out, and don't book anything for the evening.

Write down three things while they're fresh, because conference notes almost never get read again.

What an ADHD conference really costs

The ticket is rarely the whole cost. Here's what a two day London conference tends to add up to.

Ticket
Free to several hundred pounds
Train
Check on the day you'd travel
One night's hotel
Check for that week
Food and coffee
Roughly a day's eating out
A day off work
Your own figure

We don't publish travel and hotel figures we haven't checked ourselves. Price the real dates before you commit, because a London week in November costs more than a quiet one.

Ways to bring it down

Early bird tickets usually save 20 to 30 per cent. Day tickets often exist even when only the full pass is advertised. Online tickets, where offered, remove travel entirely.

Concession and bursary places

Several organisers hold back reduced or free places for people with ADHD, students, or those on low incomes. They're rarely advertised. Emailing to ask is normal and nobody minds.

If it's still too much

The free online conferences in October cover a lot of the same ground. Recorded sessions from paid conferences sometimes appear afterwards too.

Asking your employer to pay

Plenty of employers will fund a conference if you ask properly. The ask lands better when it's framed around what your team gets out of it.

What to include in the request

The date, the cost, and two or three specific sessions relevant to your role. Offer to write up what you learn afterwards. Send it at least six weeks ahead, before the early bird price ends.

If you're going as an employee with ADHD

Some conferences count as training and come out of a learning budget rather than anything to do with disability. You don't have to explain why it interests you.

Access to Work

The government's Access to Work scheme can cover support at work for people with ADHD. What it covers varies by case, so check the current guidance on GOV.UK rather than relying on what someone told you.

An email you can copy

Hi [name], I'd like to attend [conference] on [date]. Tickets are [price] until the early bird deadline on [date]. Two sessions are directly relevant to [project or responsibility], and I'll write up the useful bits for the team afterwards. Happy to talk it through if that's easier.

CPD and professional accreditation

If you need CPD hours, check the accreditation before you book rather than after. Not every ADHD conference is accredited, and some are certified rather than formally accredited, which are different things.

What to check

Which body has accredited it, how many hours it carries, and whether hours depend on attending the whole programme. Organisers list this on the booking page, or will tell you if you email.

Certified is not the same as accredited

Some events describe themselves as CPD certified. That's a self declared or third party certification rather than accreditation by a professional body. Whether your regulator accepts it depends on your profession.

Keeping your certificate

Certificates are usually emailed within a fortnight. Save it somewhere you'll find it again, because chasing one up a year later is difficult.

International ADHD conferences worth watching online

A few overseas conferences stream or record their sessions, which makes them worth knowing about even if you're not travelling.

International Conference on ADHD

United States, December

The largest ADHD conference in the world, run by CHADD and partners. Ask about virtual passes and recordings.

CADDRA Annual ADHD Conference

Canada, November

Canada's clinical ADHD conference. Strong research programme, aimed squarely at practitioners.

CADDAC Annual ADHD Conference

Canada, October

Aimed at adults with ADHD and families, and usually available online as well as in person.

Southern African Multidisciplinary ADHD Congress

South Africa, September

Multidisciplinary programme for clinicians and educators. Check whether sessions are streamed before planning around it.

Check each organiser for an online option before booking travel. Some of these are in person only.

Questions about UK ADHD conferences

How much do UK ADHD conferences cost?

It varies enormously. The free online conferences cost nothing, family expos are usually in the low tens of pounds, and clinical conferences run into the hundreds. Early bird pricing typically saves 20 to 30 per cent, and many organisers hold back concession places.

Which ADHD conference is best for adults with ADHD?

The Global ADHD Conference is the usual recommendation. It's free, online, runs in early October, and is built around adults with ADHD rather than professionals. Clinical conferences like UKAAN cover adult ADHD in depth but are written for people who treat it, not people who have it.

Are UK ADHD conferences CPD accredited?

Some are. UKAAN's conference is aimed at clinicians and carries accreditation, and several other events are CPD certified. Certified and accredited are not the same thing, so check which body is behind it and whether your regulator accepts it.

Do I need to work in healthcare to attend an ADHD conference?

No, for most of them. Community conferences, family expos and online summits are open to anyone. A small number of clinical conferences are restricted to registered professionals, and they say so on their booking pages.

Can I attend a UK ADHD conference online?

Some offer it, some don't. The October summits are online by design. In person conferences vary, and hybrid tickets have become less common since 2023. Ask about recordings even where there's no live stream, since many share sessions afterwards.

When do tickets for 2026 ADHD conferences go on sale?

Usually three to six months ahead. Early bird pricing tends to close six to eight weeks before the event. Free online conferences open registration much later, often only a few weeks before.

Are there ADHD conferences outside London?

Yes, though London hosts the largest clinical events. The Autism & ADHD Show runs in Birmingham and Liverpool as well as London, and regional charities host smaller conferences across the UK. Online events remove the geography question entirely.

What should I take to an ADHD conference?

A charger, headphones, a water bottle and something to fidget with. Snacks help, since lunch is often later than advertised. Take a photo of the programme on your phone so you're not hunting for the paper copy all day.

Are ADHD conferences worth the money?

It depends what you want from one. For professionals needing CPD and current evidence, usually yes. For an individual with ADHD looking for practical strategies, the free online conferences often deliver more per pound. Try a free one before committing to a paid one.
